About
Welcome to the Lockhart K - 8 School
In 1995 the original school was destroyed by Hurricane Marilyn. Built in 1962, the Sugar Estate Elementary School was renamed the Lockhart Elementary School by Act No. 937 approved by the Fifth Legislature on February 21, 1963.
This was done to recognize the humanitarian qualities and honorable acts of the late Alfred Harris Lockhart, Sr, patriarch of the Lockhart Family. In memory of and to maintain the tradition of the patriarch, the family sold a large parcel of land at Estate Thomas, on which the school is located, to the government.
The faculty and students went to school at Gladys Abraham on double session until 1996 when they moved back to the school site in modular classrooms. They remained in these modular rooms until the new school was rebuilt and they occupied it in 2000. This facility is now the current school.
