From December 9–11, 2024, NASA will visit the islands of St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas to engage students and the wider community through its Exhibit and Community Outreach Programs.
This partnership reflects the Department’s ongoing commitment to fostering educational excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) and strengthening the STEM pipeline for students in the Virgin Islands.
The St. Croix Educational Complex High School Cheerleading Team has proudly made history for the U.S. Virgin Islands by securing the silver medal in the Non-Tumbling Super Varsity division at the World High School Cheerleading Competition (WSCC) held on February 9, 2025. This remarkable achievement marks the team’s second appearance at the prestigious event, where they also earned 3rd place in the Nations Ranking category.
The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is overjoyed to announce that Mr. Andre Douglas, a dedicated mathematics teacher at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School (IEKHS), has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). This award, presented by the White House, is one of the highest national honors given to educators who demonstrate exceptional teaching in the fields of mathematics and science.
The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is thrilled to celebrate the extraordinary success of the Virgin Islands Film Academy, a groundbreaking eight-week program held in the St. Thomas-St. John District. Spearheaded by renowned filmmaker and proud Virgin Islander John P. Wheatley, this initiative transformed high school students from Charlotte Amalie High School and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School into creative filmmakers through hands-on training and mentorship by industry professionals.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is proud to announce the launch of the inspiring student-written anthology, “Overcoming,” a testament to the resilience, strength, and unwavering spirit of twelve remarkable students from the St. Thomas-St. John District. This anthology, a collection of personal stories, captures the tenacity, pride, and hope of these young authors as they recount their experiences during the unprecedented challenges posed by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017 and the global COVID-19 pandemic.
This pioneering initiative is set to ignite a movement of sustainability, food security, and environmental stewardship across the Territory, marking a significant step forward in the USVI Agricultural Plan’s commitment to integrating agricultural education into PreK-12 schools.
